Kenya Women Premier League (WPL) side Wadadia FC displayed stunning game management skills to pick their third win of the season and move to ten points.Up against Ulinzi Starlets at Lang’ata’s Ulinzi Complex, the Silvanus Wesonga-coached side scored once to pick a crucial victory and subject the military side to back-to-back losses. @FKF_WPL side @wadadia pick a 0-1 won away to Ulinzi Starlets at Ulinzi Complex pic.twitter.com/Zz7VjVv2VS— Matheka (@Lynmatheka) January 28, 2023 “I am happy for this win and for the team’s performance in this match. I have a young squad and getting such a result away against an experienced side is a big boost to their confidence. We had to use five defenders in this match to counter their speed and experience up front and I am satisfied with the final outcome,” offered coach Wesonga. Wadadia began the match with the intent to bag an early goal and kept their foot on the pedal from the onset as the home side struggled to settle and string passes. Wesonga’s charges kept the pressure on and despite Starlets keeping a tight backline, their efforts paid off with fifteen minutes played as Jackline Chesang broke the deadlock for the opener and her second goal for the side this season. Confident that they could break the military side again, Wadadia continued their onslaught and came close to doubling their advantage ten minutes later. A surprise shot way off the penalty box caught Mejuma Omar flat-footed but the ball hit the crossbar, bounced downwards but missed the line for a clearance even as Wadadia appealed to the referee to declare it a goal. The match headed to the breather with the visitors holding the slight advantage. It was the hosts who returned ready to tear Wadadia’s defense apart in the second half and pressed for an equaliser. However, Wadadia would not crack and resulted to attempting for a second goal through fast breaks. The final whistle went with Wadadia bagging maximum points and a speechless Joseph Wambua unable to explain how his side has lost at home back-to-back. “This is embarrassing,” exclaimed Wambua. “We cannot change the result but it is worrying given our next two matches are tougher.” Ulinzi face holders Vihiga Queens and Gaspo Queens who remain unbeaten so far in this season’s campaign. We were contesting for the league but after the last two matches, we have a long way to go. The point difference with the league leaders is likely to go to nine at the end of the weekend and that gives us an uphill task in the attempt to revive our title hopes,” offered Wambua.
