The High Court in Madrid has issued a decision prohibiting the highest bodies of European and world football (UEFA and FIFA) from blocking the European Super League project while the legal proceedings are pending.This also applies to all associated members, which allows the project to continue with further work.The Madrid court delivered this decision to A22 Sports Management, which was created to sponsor and help create the European Super League.In its advisory capacity, A22 focuses on the overall structure, operation and financial aspects of the new potential competition.”The Superior Court of Madrid (Audiencia Provincial), in an order delivered to A22 Sports Management, agreed to reinstate the injunction issued in April 2021 in order to protect the Super League, its clubs and other potential participants from threats and other actions by UEFA and FIFA, designed to prevent or interfere with the Super League project. The ban also applies to affiliated federations and leagues. In its confirmation, the High Court of Madrid pointed out that the conduct of UEFA and FIFA against the Super League “cannot be justified by the protection of the general interests of European football but may constitute unjustified abuse by those who have a dominant position”.##NAJAVA_MECA_6988904##According to the High Court of Madrid, the steps taken by UEFA and FIFA represent “obstacles typical of closed and anachronistic models that are not in line with free competition and the principles of freedom of enterprise prevailing in Europe”.The High Court of Madrid has therefore granted protection from any type of sanctions pending legal proceedings. The case is now pending before the Court of Justice of the European Union, after which it will return to the Spanish courts. The High Court in Madrid, which has already fined UEFA and La Liga during this legal process for acting in “procedural ill faith”.
