Kenya Police have made yet another statement of intent after annihilating the 2008 league champions Mathare United 5-0 at Kasarani Stadium on Wednesday. Police who were coming from a 3-0 win over holders Tusker whipped Mathare who finished with ten men to move to the top five bracket, and six points off log leaders Nzoia Sugar.Mathare on the other hand remai rooted at the rock bottom of the log with four points against their name.##NAJAVA_MECA_6988540##Mathare head coach Boniface Omondi regretted that the red card dished to Lennox Ogutu made it difficult for them to stage a comeback and probably salvage a point.”We played well but chasing for results became difficult when we were reduced to ten men,” he said. His Police counterpart Francis Baraza termed the win as an easy one but remained coy on their chances of winning the title. The rift in class between the two sides was there for all to see as Police took control of the proceedings from onset, pinning Mathare to their area in search for goals. So intense was the pressure from Police that the Mathare defence found no room to breathe and execute their usual style of play that entails building from the back.Police broke the deadlock in the 12th minute through Clinton Miheso who curled the ball to the right corner after Duke Abuya found him with a lovely cut back.Miheso who evaded his marker Levin Odhiambo whipped the ball past Brian Olang’o who had made crucial saves and interceptions to open his goal account in the season. Ex international praises Nzoia Sugar bossMathare’s Douglas Kibet would have restored parity four minutes later after Chris Owino picked him but the South B All Stars product who had the goalkeeper at his mercy failed to make contact with the ball.Elvis Rupia would have doubled the lead for Police from the spot in the 34th minute after he was brought down by Brian Okeyo who was lucky to have survived a sent off for a last man challenge on the burly forward. Rupia stopped up to take the penalty but Olang’o was equal to the challenge, putting his fists on the line to deflect the hard-hit ball for a corner. Olang’o was called into action in the closing stages of the first half as Police continued to ran amok in the area looking to double the advantage. However, the youthful custodian could not deny Miheso for the second time as the winger kissed the back of his net in the 42nd minute finishing off a pass from Francis Kahata. After missing the target on a number of occasions in the first half, Rupia made amends, seven minutes after restart as he put the ball into the net from close range after the defence failed to deal with a ball floated in the box.Following the goal, the former Nzoia Sugar man has nine goals against his name, one shy of Gor Mahia hotshot Benson Omala.Four minutes after conceding the third goal, Mathare’s day in the office went from bad to worse as central defender Lennox Ogutu was sent off for a last man challenge.Disbandment reports divide Fortune Sacco FC hierarchyAbuya netted the fourth goal for Police in the 63rd minute bending the ball past the fully stretching Olang’o. Harun Shakava who was interestingly in the Mathare area would claim the assist.Second half substitute Clinton Kinanga put the icing on the cake after the man mountain forward forced the ball past the line in the 89th minute.Elsewhere, FC Talanta returned to winning ways after beating Wazito 3-0 at Muhoroni Stadium.
