Ulinzi Stars FC head coach Bernard Mwalala says they will beef up their squad during the mid-season transfer window should they identify players who will make the team better. The soldiers currently occupy the eighth position in the league in what has been a mixed season so far for them. They have wins, five draws and three losses to their name. They trail leaders Nzoia Sugar FC by seven points.##NAJAVA_MECA_6996473##It is largely an improved performance compared to last when they were on the wrong end of the table. 13 matches into the new season, they have scored 15 goals, six shy of what they managed the whole of last season. The improvement coincided with Mwalala’s appointment. He joined the team before the start of the season as a replacement for Benjamin Nyangweso and appears to have changed the team’s fortunes around.Asked whether he will be beefing up during the mid-season window, the former Kenyan international first exuded confidence in his team adding that the goal is to keep improving his current squad.”We have a good team at the moment. We have been trying to build the team and as the technical bench, we have seen the strides that we have made from the start of the season to this point, we are not yet there and we will keep polishing the team,” he said.An away trip to Bukhungu Stadium awaits in our next encounter! 🔜#ulinzifamily#stand001branch #GBUS pic.twitter.com/8gCgVKN3yD— Ulinzi Stars FC (@UlinziStarsFC) February 3, 2023 He’s however open to making signings if they can get some good players when the window opens at the end of the month.”That said, we always try to improve the squad by bringing on board players that we believe will make us better. We are always on the lookout for players and if we can identify some good ones then we will try to sign them. At this point I cannot say that we are going to sign so and so because recruitment is a process, we will see what we will be able to do when the window opens, ” he added.Last weekend they went down 2-1 to Nzoia Sugar FC at their Ulinzi Complex backyard, that was their first defeat in ten games. Ahead of Sunday’s match against Vihiga Bullets in Kakamega, Mwalala says they have to bounce back but warned that it will not be a walk in the park.”We slipped and we have to bounce back as soon as possible. The match against Vihiga is an opportunity to do that. It is not going to be an easy game because they are at home, they are playing well despite the financial challenges that they face and we have to be at our best to get a win, there’s no room for laxity, ” he added.Among players linked with a move to Ulinzi is Nzoia Sugar FC duo of Boniface Munyendo and Kevin Juma.Boost for Nairobi City Stars as highly-rated winger returns ahead of Gor Mahia clash
