Malinoviskyi’s thunderbolt and mistake by Ramos bring Marseille the win over PSG

The losing streak is over, and Marseille fans can finally rejoice! Their team managed to finally beat PSG, this time in the Round 16 of the French Cup and to break the losing streak with stretched for 12 years and 10 games. Marseille didn’t win at home against the Parisians since 2011 (3 draws and 7 defeats) but a thunderbolt from Malinoviskyi and a couple of mistakes from Ramos were enough for the 2-1 triumphs at the packed Velodrome and a passage to the quarterfinals.PSG are eliminated from the Coupe de France by Marseille in the round of 16.It’s the only trophy Messi has competed for in his career that he has not won ❌ pic.twitter.com/3xOuoCbI7g— B/R Football (@brfootball) February 8, 2023 Marseille defeated the biggest rival for the Cup trophy (PSG has 13, OM 10) with a high pressure in the first half and a smart defensive and precise display in the second. Apart from Malinovskyi’ wonderful volley, it was the experienced Sergio Ramos who ‘pushed’ the home team to victory. Former Real captain was the one who was guilty of the penalty which gave Marseille the lead, and the Spaniard was offside in the 93rd minute, after which the late equalizer was nullified. On the other hand, he was the only scorer for the visitors in a game in which Messi’s shot went over the bar and Neymar hit the post.Marseille at home to Paris SG tonight! 🇫🇷👏🏻 pic.twitter.com/EwIzfbQk4J— 𝐂𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐥𝐭𝐫𝐚 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 (@thecasualultra) February 8, 2023 The home team went hard straight from the start and it paid of with a better half and some great chances. Marseille tried to take the lead in the 6th (Under), in the 20th (Kolašinac), and in the 25th minute (Guendouzi), but it was either Donnarumma’s save, or a shot over the goal or a block by a PSG defender that got in the way of goal. But there was no save when Ramos fouled Under in the penalty area. Alexis Sanches was precise and home team took the lead. PSG were the second best team but that doesn’t mean they didn’t have their chances. They could have scored in the 4th minute, but Lopez made a parade after a Mendes shot. Messi took a fantastic free kick but the ball went near the bar and Neymar managed to hit the post minutes later. But then the Marseille defense left Ramos completely unmarked and he easily scored a header just second before the end of the first half. After the break, the game was not so intense as it was before. The Parisians regain control and settled in Marseille’s half while the home team went on the defensive, trying to distrupt the game and keep the intencity low. The fouls between the players began to multiply and more and more players were laying on the field for minutes. But when Marseille started the counter attack in the 57th minute, Sanchez looked for the brace but couldn’t put the ball through a sea of legs. The ball bounced back and the new boy Ruslan Malinovskyi’s thunderbolt from the edge of the penalty area gave the home team the lead. After that PSG pressed more but just couldn’t break the organized Marseille team. They managed to score in injury time, but the goal was nullified due to that fact that Ramos was offside.
