Barcelona president Joan Laporta spoke to club members in the Camp Nou’s Auditorium 1899 meeting hall on Thursday and confirmed what we already knew about him: he is in awe of himself. The club supremo boasted about saving the Catalan club from financial ruin with his set of measures that lowered the club’s expenses while improving the first team’s fortunes on the pitch. He deserves credit for working hard to find new ways of fixing Barca’s economic state, but we deserve not to listen about his exploits quite so often. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7006883##Laporta has blasted La Liga for how it is treating his club and made a huge claim about how much he has reduced its wage bill while also claiming to have saved Barca from financial ruin. He noted that we are now midway through 2022/23, with it also nearly two years since he and his board assumed control of the club by winning an election in 2021. Laporta claimed that they “took a risk” by taking over the club at such a difficult moment but that the team is benefiting from his actions.”The priority objective is La Liga, in which we are first with 53 points. We have a solid defence. We know that it is a team that is in a growth phase. We have strengthened the first team, we have won the Super Cup, we are still in the Copa del Rey, in the Europa League… we want to win everything.”Though Barca are indeed on course to win their first Spanish top-flight title since 2019, Laporta blasted La Liga head Javier Tebas, who has thrown obstacles in their way.”Every time we have overcome an obstacle, the league has changed the rule so that we do not do these operations again. This is a constant push and pull.”Barça president Laporta: “We are not thinking of selling Ansu Fati as of now, he’s loved here — then I cannot predict the future”. 🚨🔵🔴 #FCB“His agent told us there are clubs keen on signing Ansu Fati, yes”.“It is clear that he wants to succeed here at Barça”. pic.twitter.com/Ii9un5iurh— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) February 9, 2023 Another obstacle launched in Barca’s path by Tebas is the La Liga head claiming that Barca must shave $214 million from their wage bill ahead of 2023/2024. According to Laporta, the wage bill has been lowered by $10 million, and he expects it to drop to $183 million by June. The years of disregard for rules are causing Barcelona’s president constant headaches – which he’s determined to give us with his speeches. Just be quiet and work, Joan. Do what Xavi is doing!
