How does a goalkeeper become a legend? Easy, by protecting his net, claiming crosses, saving penalties and one-on-ones and organising his defenders. But Cadiz’s Argentinean custodian Jeremias Conan Ledesma does all that and more. Earlier this season, when his team hosted Barcelona in a La Liga game at Estadio Nuevo Mirandilla, he helped save a fan’s life. A Cadiz fan in the stands had a medical emergency, suffering a cardiac arrest. Conan was the first to realise the gravity of the situation, so he sprinted over to Barcelona’s bench, picked up a portable defibrillator and sprinted back to throw the medical kit into the stand.Cadiz goalkeeper Conan Ledesma sprints across the pitch carrying a defibrillator after a fan suffered a cardiac arrest in the stands. Not all heroes wear capes. 👏 pic.twitter.com/SqKvjn8iSs— The Sun Football ⚽ (@TheSunFootball) September 10, 2022 Red Cross staff were also present as the fan was revived in the stands. Players prayed on the pitch, with several others in tears. After 15 emotional minutes, both teams were sent into the dressing rooms by the referee. An ambulance then arrived at the scene as the fan was taken away on a stretcher. Thankfully, the fans survived and fully recovered in the meantime – to Conan’s relief.”I could see that they were doing CPR to someone. My head acted quickest, and I shouted to the physio, the doctor from Barcelona heard me and I went for the defibrillator from their bench. It was about the life of a person, and there is nothing that is more important than the life of a human being.”That day, Jeremias found his place in the hearts of football fans in Spain. His urgency and effort were greeted with gratitude from the community in Cadiz. Unlike Conan, the comic book character, this 29-year-old Argentinean is no barbarian – but a gentle human being.##NAJAVA_MECA_7014762##The Buenos Aires-born goalie spent most of his career with Argentinean top-tier club Rosario Central before joining Cadiz on an initial loan deal when the Andalusian club won promotion to La Liga in 2020.
