Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has taken a dig at the style of play deployed by reigning Football Kenya Federation Premier League champions Tusker after K’Ogalo managed to record a hard fought 2-1 victory over the Robert Matano coached side on Wednesday.Speaking after the victory that marked the very first time K’Ogalo defeated Tusker since 2019, the Northern Irishman accused the Brewers of playing unpleasant football that does not reflect their financial muscle which enables them to comfortably attract top players who can do better.Omala the hero yet again as K’Ogalo end three year hoodoo against Tusker“Playing against Tusker is hard because, I do not want to be too critical, but I think we all know that they have the biggest budget in Kenyan football but I do not see much football being played. It is almost like anti-football. It is long ball after long ball and sometimes you expect this from teams that are towards the bottom of the league with less talent,” the coach said.“We came into the game and it was hard to play against that. It is good for Kenyan football that we won because we tried to play football. There was twenty minutes in the second half where maybe we got drawn into their way of playing long balls but we reminded the boys that we had to play and that is what created the situation for the football,” he noted.Three Kenyans set for continental action as CAFCL and CAF CC group action kicks offWhile stressing that he tries to instill the beautiful way of playing for his Gor Mahia side, McKinstry called on the top teams in the league to improve their standards in a bid to try and produce eye catching performances that go hand in hand with results.“We have to keep reminding the players that it is not just about winning. I think with the teams that have got history and maybe a little of finance have a little responsibility to play football that the supporters want to come and watch.##NAJAVA_MECA_7014111##I am not saying we are Barcelona by any means, we have a long way from that, but we have players who can play and with confidence in that talent, we can go a long way this season,” he stated. The former Uganda Cranes head coach has enjoyed a wonderful start to life at the record 19 time Kenyan champions as he has only lost once in the opening thirteen games of the 2022/2023 season (W9 D3), results that have Gor sitting second on the log on 30 points, one behind leaders Nzoia Sugar who have played two extra matches.
