Injury troubled Vihiga face Wadadia test as Gaspo clash with Ulinzi in WPL round nine

It is not all rosy at the four-time Women Premier League (WPL) champions Vihiga Queens’ camp as coach Boniface Nyamunyamu has voiced concerns of a thinning squad. The league leaders have a date with rivals Wadadia FC on Saturday 11 February at Mumias Complex but the tactician says he is not guranteed a full squad or bench players due to injuries. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7014103##”My squad has been immensely affected by injuries and we picked a few more in our last match against Ulinzi Starlets. This week I have been training with seven or eight players on any given day. Our first choice keeper Diana Tembesi picked an injury against Ulinzi so did defenders Ruth Khasoa and Norah Ann. Felistus Khadari and Merycline Oginga are also oug injured while Maureen Ater is not fully recovered. Janet Bundi is also unwell and while I am expecting here to feature against Wadadia she might not be fully fit to perform at her best,” Nyamunyamu explained. Despite the squad challenges, the tactician is hoping to guide his charges past their rivals in the Mumias derby as the side looks to get back to winning ways. Ulinzi Starlets eyeing Gaspo scalp in crucial WPL clashVihiga Queens have fallen to Thika Queens 4-1 and Ulinzi Starlets 3-2 in their last two outings, results that Nyamunyamu admits are partly due to the team’s lack of depth as they are faced with an injury plague. “I have prepared the team to the best of my ability and while some may be forced to play out of position to make up for the absence of others, I still am confident we can fight for maximum points and the chance to extend our stay at the helm,” Nyamunyamu added. Meanwhile, Zetech Sparks, fresh from a barren draw against Trans Nzoia Falcons clash with Bunyore at GEMS Cambridge as Ulinzi Starlets entertain Gaspo Women at the Ulinzi Complex. Sparks’ head coach Bernard Kitolo says the availability of the team’s top scorer Puren Alukwe gives his side confidence to pick maximum. NEXT MATCH ALERT! ⚽🏆 FKF Women Premier League Wadadia FC 🆚 Vihiga Queens Football CLUB 🏟️ Mumias Sports Complex | MUMIAS📅 SATURDAY, 11/02/2023⏰ 12:00 PMTukutane SITE SATO!#VihigaQueens#LegacyMakers pic.twitter.com/SL5OBk2UxT— Vihiga Queens FC (@Vihigaqueensfc) February 9, 2023 “The team’s morale was low after the deduction of points for the walkover but we have had to move past that and are now fighting to get back to the top of the table. We know Bunyore are not an easy side to face but they will find an equally prepared opponent in Sparks. The league will be closely contested if what the standings say now is anything to go by so we are still in the race,” Kitolo said. His opposite number Daniel Arunga says the side’s preparedness is top-notch despite the challenges the team is facing. SaturdayZetech Sparks vs Bunyore Starlets 12:00 pm (GEMS School)Wadadia vs Vihiga Queens 12:00 pm (Mumias Sports Complex)Ulinzi Starlets vs Gaspo Women 3:00 pm (Ulinzi Sports Complex)SundayNakuru City Queens vs Trans Nzoia Falcons 12:00 pm (Nakuru Show Grounds)Thika Queens vs Kangemi Ladies 1:00 pm (Thika Stadium)Kayole Starlet vs Kisumu AllStarlets 3:00 pm (KCB Members Club)
