Gor Mahia eye top spot as they host troubled Wazito in a crunch tie

Record league champions, Gor Mahia have a chance to go top in the FKF Premier League when they welcome Wazito FC to the Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani on Tuesday afternoon. The match was initially penciled in for early in the season but had to be postponed due to an active case challenging the nullification of the 2021/22 season by FKF NEC at the Sports Tribunal.##NAJAVA_MECA_7013820##The clash comes at a time when Gor Mahia are on good form, have lost just once all season, trail leaders Nzoia Sugar by just one point, and a triumph will send them to the helm of the league ahead of week 16 league action over the weekend.Wazito, on the other hand, are going through a torrid period. Their form in the league is poor, and they are on the wrong side of the table. The club is struggling financially, and on Monday they lost their head coach, Jeffers Odongo, who joined Kakamega Homeboyz as an assistant coach. They have since appointed Ugandan Paul Nkata as head coach and in his first assignement he faces Gor, which is led by former Uganda Cranes and Rwanda head coach Johnathan McKinstry.Gor Mahia have won four of their last five league assignments, including the 2-1 triumph over defending champions Tusker FC a week ago. Wazito, on the other hand, have lost five of their last seven games and have won just two all season. They are yet to bag a win in Nairobi. The only Coach who can save Wazito FC.Adagala and Odijo are just a match made in heaven#FKFPL pic.twitter.com/7U73WxUdc2— Murimi Njiru (@muriminjirujnr) February 13, 2023 Despite facing a troubled team, the Irishman is cautious and warned against underrating the Muhoroni-based club.”In this league, you can’t despise any team, and that is why we have to give our best against Wazito. The boys are mentally prepared, and we have been on a good run, and we will do our best to get the three points,” the Gor Mahia coach told the Nation.Wazito chairman Moses Adagala downplayed the impact of Odongo’s exit and believes that his team will be okay.”Odongo was never really our head coach; he was just the leader of the technical bench on the interim staff. I handed him that role because he’s someone who understands Wazito FC well, but at no point did we confirm him as our coach; the team will be fine”.The match kicks off at 3PM.EXCLUSIVE: Ugandan Paul Nkata appointed Wazito FC coach
