Kenya Police attacking midfielder Alvin Mang’eni, straight from scoring his first pair of goals this season, believes that he has a lot left in the tank to help his side.Mang’eni stepped onto the field at halftime in Police’s latest fixture against Nairobi City Stars to score two decisive goals that extended the team’s brilliant run of form with a 2-1 comeback win.The interesting part is that he bagged his brace in a minute, something that he admits wasn’t overly surprising.##NAJAVA_MECA_7031475##“A halftime substitute coming on to contribute offensively in this team isn’t through luck to be honest,” Mang’eni told Mozzart Sport. “Our side as constructed has so many brilliant players that feed attackers the ball and often create opportunities. It is an expectation.”Absorbing much of what head coach Francis Baraza had instructed him to do during the halftime break he said, was the other reason he showed maturity and took responsibility to steer the team’s comeback.“Once in the locker room, the coach called me with clear instructions on how to attack the second half,” Mang’eni said of the whole situation in the locker room after it was confirmed that Clifton was getting subbed out for him. “Coach always reminds us to take shots and believe. That’s simply what I did.”The former Kariobangi Sharks man would end up sticking the equalizer at the back post before unleashing a shot from 20 yards a minute afterwards that breezed past Jacob Osano in the City Stars goal.Mapema ndio best Kenya Police F.C vs @talantafcKasarani Annex Saturday 3.00pm @betika@748AirServices@DCI_Kenya#policingthroughsports#tuchezetujuane pic.twitter.com/LZYbsbpp6j— KENYA POLICE FC (@kenyapolicefc) February 17, 2023 “That was a perfectly crafted goal from just how the build-up was,” Mang’eni recalled his second goal. “The movement from my teammates was so clear that they were opening up some space for me. All I had to do was sit inside my space and take the chance.”Clearly placing his team’s expectations first, Mang’eni biggest delight was to see his team inch closer to the summit of the Premier League – where Kenya Police are only six points behind leaders Gor Mahia- and keep the hope of winning their maiden league title alive.Alvin Mang’eni stars as Police take down City Stars“Optimism in the squad is really high,” he said. “Seeing ourselves near the top is encouraging just for everything everyone does here. What you see now is a team that has clearly defined roles and guys just doing their level best. All departments are working in harmony.”Individually, Mang’eni hopes that those two goals will give him more opportunity to start regularly for the team and for him to improve on his play.“More goals and more assists are coming,” he concluded.Kenya Police take on Talanta FC at the Kasarani Annex on Saturday at 1500EAT.
