Matano hails Kibwage, hints at more signings for Tusker

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano thinks that the signing of central defender Michael Kibwage will ‘add more punch’ to his side as they seek to defend the FKF Premier League title.Speaking after a hard-fought 2-1 home victory against Mathare United last weekend, Matano expressed confidence in signing ‘an experienced player that will help us a lot this season.’Kibwage was on Thursday last week unveiled as the club’s first mid-season signing from free agency and is not expected to suit up for The Brewers until February 27 – when the league’s transfer window opens.##NAJAVA_MECA_7041332##The former Sofapaka man was however on the stands on Saturday, and seemed to celebrate the team’s goals in the second half.As per Matano, Kibwage might not be the only new name to get through the doors at Tusker.“We are looking forward to making more signings,” Matano said. “Around three or four more players will be joining us in the next few weeks.”Without specifying the positions, the former AFC Leopards head coach distanced himself from engaging with Burundian striker Shassir Nahimana, who has reportedly been mooted to be closing on to a deal with the defending champions.Up next, we take on Posta Rangers at the Annex this Sunday.#KenyaMilele #Brewers4Life pic.twitter.com/GkpjMSylED— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) February 22, 2023 “No no. I have no idea about the striker,” Matano said, laughing off the reports. “Maybe someone is trying to use us to get him a deal elsewhere. I haven’t talked to any striker outside the country.”With the club navigating itself through a number of injuries and to important players, Matano is hopeful that the new names will provide relief, as well as the club benefitting from the one week break like they did before last weekend’s win.Mathare United coach acknowledges loyal fans’ impact on team’s performance“The break we had was good because it helped us come back well,” Matano said. “We have a lot of young players now and while others are injured, that time we have for recovery is very important.”Tusker next play Posta Rangers on Sunday at the Kasarani Annex grounds. The game kicks off at 1500 EAT.
