Are things looking up for Tusker? Matano believes so

Tusker FC head coach Robert Matano has over the past two weeks maintained that his approach to the summit of the Premier League is ‘day by day’ and that was the case Sunday afternoon as The Brewers secured their second consecutive win following a run of four games without a win.Shami Mwinyi’s fourth minute free-kick was the difference as Tusker saw out Posta Rangers 1-0 at the Kasarani Annex Grounds, sending them to fourth position on the log – six points behind leaders Gor Mahia.##NAJAVA_MECA_7060420##“It’s a good win, we are keeping close to the leaders and progressing too well despite the injuries,” Matano said post-game.Tusker were missing the services of Ibrahim Joshua, Lawrence Luvanda (personal reasons), Boniface Onyango (knee) on Sunday, with Daniel Sakkari and skipper Humphrey Mieno relegated to the bench with slight niggles. It got even worse for Matano as Collins Otieno suffered what looked to be a thigh injury late in the first quarter, taking away his services in the middle of the park.“As of now, we are struggling,” Matano said. “We even saw Bwire come in as a field player today. I am however relieved that the injured players are coming back.”🗣️Head coach Robert Matano’s sentiments after yesterday’s win against Posta Rangers pic.twitter.com/Pk85zcuZ53— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) February 27, 2023 Among the players making their cameos from injury layoffs was Humphrey Mieno who came in as a late substitute and had a heavy strapping round his thigh.“He’s slowly coming back,” Matano said of Mieno’s comeback. “We decided to give him some few minutes and you can see what he brings to the team in terms of controlling the game and organization. I am happy that he is back.”On Tuesday, Luvanda joined up with the team in training, slowly indicating how things at Tusker are patching up.🙏Great to see Luvanda back with the boys.Welcome back chief! pic.twitter.com/I4oHW3AfXC— 🏆Tusker FC (@tusker_fc) February 28, 2023 “We will be there and where we belong,” Matano said, referring to the team’s positive progress as a whole. “I have maintained that we move at our own pace. Don’t really focus on what the rest are doing, just doing what we have to do.”With Tusker set to play Garissa’s Berlin FC in the FKF Cup over the weekend, Matano was adamant that his young players will get an opportunity to also strip up for those games, while also providing a room for the experienced to get involved and ready for Tusker’s next Premier game against Bandari.“We have no big game or small game, we will be there and ready,” Matano concluded.
