Phil Foden is back. The pacey winger battled with injuries and fatigue after the World Cup, but Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola gave him some time to recover and his ‘diamond’ shone at the right time. Foden scored a brace in a rather average FA Cup game in Bristol and defeated the hosts 3-0, after De Bruyne scored a beauty from over 20 meters late in the game. The Citizens dominated throughout the match, but the score was actually 1-0 until the 74th minute, when Foden’s second goal cemented the win. A fantastic Mahrez, playing his best football since the beginning of the season came from the right and sneaked in to the penalty area, only to assist Foden who was waiting on the other post. But that was about it in the first half. Bristol City appealed for a penalty two minutes later but it wasn’t given and City had another chance in the 40th minute. The second half was poor for most of the time, as City had the advantage but couldn’t break the hosts and score a much needed second goal. In fact, it took Guardiola’side over an hour to break the deadlock. And it was Foden again, in the 74th minute. Ake joined the attack, found Alvarez and he found Foden on the angle. His effort took a deflection and found the far corner. Minutes later it was definitely over, with (another) great De Bruyne goal from over 20 meters for the final score and another round of the FA Cup.
