Exclusive: Softie among six released by Kenya Police FC

Kenya Police FC have wielded the axe, sending six players packing as part of their restructuring ahead of the second leg that starts on Wednesday 8 March. The law enforcers are currently sixth in the log with 28 points after 17 rounds of league matches, and coach Francis Baraza has made it clear that he wants his team to be in the title race until the final day of the season.##NAJAVA_MECA_7069113##In an earlier interview, the tactician revealed that he was going to bring in a few players during the mid-season transfer window to beef up his squad.”There are areas that we are going to beef up, but we are not going to sign too many players. I came into the team and found a great squad here, and I want to thank the coaches that were here before me; they did a good job,” Baraza told Mozzart Sport.”We will sign two or three players this window. There are positions that I feel need beefing up, but I don’t want to discuss the specific areas at this point because that can easily destabilize the team by sending some players into panic,” he added. To make room for the new arrivals, the club has let go of six players.Among them is goalkeeper Bonphas Munyasa, who was the keeper of the year in the National Super League (NSL) in 2021. Munyasa was acquired from APS Bomet when the law enforcers earned a promotion in 2021; he was among the team’s first acquisitions after gaining promotion. Winger Erick Kipkirui, who was part of the team’s setup in the second tier, has also been axed. He’s a former Kariobangi Sharks youth team player; he also turned out for the defunct Mt. He joined the team last September but struggled to break into the team; he made just one start for the law enforcers.Former AFC Leopards, Kariobangi, and Gor Mahia winger John ‘Softie’ Ndirangu have also been shown the door. Ndirangu was integral to the team’s promotion but has struggled with playing time this season and has now been shown the door.2020/21 The National Super League’s top scorer, Cornelius Juma, has also been shown the door. Juma joined Police in 2021 as the top scorer in the second tier, but in a shocking twist of events, he was converted to a right-back.Out of favour at fullback, Faustine Ojiambo has also been axed. Ojiambo has not featured for the team this season. He fell out of favour in the first leg last season. Completing the list is attacker David Otieno, a policeman by profession; he has since been redeployed to other police duties.”We left the team on Tuesday after being served with release letters. They informed us that we were not part of the team’s plans and that we had to find new clubs,” one of the released players told Mozzart Sport. Police were interested in former Tusker FC midfielder Apollo Otieno but has since joined KCB. Goalkeeper Farouk Shikalo is expected to join the team this window. Police exits Bonphas Munyasa, James Kibande, Erick Kipkirui, John Ndirangu, Cornelius Juma, David Otieno, Faustine OjiamboMusa Mohammed relishing K’Ogalo old boys reunion at Police
