Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat says he has some surprise call-ups ahead of the two international friendly matches against Burundi later this month.Speaking for the first time since returning to Kenya to begin his three year contract, Firat confirmed he has identified five foreign based players who have never played for Harambee Stars before but will only use two for the up-coming fixtures against Burundi.“I have some surprise call-ups, you will see. One we are sorting out his passport while another has to renew his. In total and for the long term iam looking to work with five foreign based players who have never played for the team but only two of them will be ready for the match against Burundi,” he said without revealing their names.Firat further said they have already sent out invitations to all the foreign players he wants for the Burundi match. As for the local players, we are still looking at who we have because we want to look at as many of them as possible. Probably in another five days, we will have finished the process and ready to release the names,” he said.Firat also confirmed he will be working with Ken Odhiambo as one of his assistants with Kariobangi Sharks coach William Muluya also continuing in his role as an assistant.The coach has been signed on a three year contract. He had initially handled Harambee Stars for three matches.With no international assignments coming up soon, Firat will have atleast eight months to look at the players who will work with him as he attempts to send back Harambee Stars to the Africa Cup of Nations finals for the first time since 2019.Kenya also has an ambitious target of playing in the 2030 World Cup.
