Abud Omar thrilled after winning start, looks ahead to a great season at Kenya Police

After close to seven years since Kenyan international Abud Omar made his last Kenyan Premier League appearance in the domestic scene, the thirty year old made his return from free agency – this time for his new club Kenya Police FC in a Wednesday afternoon FKFPL game against Kariobangi Sharks at the Moi International Sports Centre- Kasarani. The former Tusker FC left-back who in the recent weeks completed his signing with the Law Enforcers braved for 76 minutes of the highly entertaining 3-2 win for Kenya Police before making his way for the other team left back – David Owino to ice the game.##NAJAVA_MECA_7079984##“I feel great to have contributed to the win,” Abud Omar told Mozzart Sport shortly after the game. “Of course I’m excited to get a win in my first game here so it’s a positive start. I thank God.”Kenya Police with the win – their ninth out of 17 games this season- closed down the gap to log leaders Gor Mahia to just seven points with a game in hand on the latter, some stats that didn’t sound overly surprising to the former Cercle Brugge defender as he minced no words in regards to his team’s expectations this season.“This is a positive start because for us, we want to win the league or even a cup that will get us into continental football,” Omar said.Though lacking a huge sample size to judge the feel of the current Premier League season, Omar noted the trend of ‘competitiveness’ that was returning to the league as compared to his time before, and noted Nzoia Sugar’s surprise start to the current season.“I mean, when you look at the team which is in third place at the moment, should be Nzoia Sugar, they are a good team that shows just how strong and competitive the league is,” Omar added. I won’t deny that I have a really competitive guy beside me.”The ‘competitive guy’ is David Owino, who Omar described as ‘a good player’ he spent some time with in the national team camp, and thought that having him around was beneficial for both parties to continue pushing and adding more spice to their game for selection.Asked about his future, Omar though dismissive of the fact that his return home was due to no foreign clubs showing interest, said that him failing to get his salaries in his previous club – AEL Larissa- for close to five months was the reason he was unattached, but didn’t leave the door shut on moving back abroad.Abud Omar’s contract terminated in Greece“I literally have no expectations at the moment,” Omar said. “If an opportunity from outside comes by, I’ll go but if not, I will play here. Why not?”With a few weeks left until Kenya plays a couple of friendlies against Burundi on 25th and 28th March this year, Omar seemingly looked to throw his hat in the ring for national team selection saying, ”As of now, I haven’t written any letter announcing my retirement from international football. I have not talked to any national team coach before and I am a believer that your work on the pitch speaks a lot to what you can offer. If called up, I will definitely be ready.”Kenya Police will on Thursday embark on a long trip to Kakamega to play Kakamega Homeboyz over the weekend. That will be the first time the team has traveled outside Nairobi for a Premier League game this season.
