Tusker FC’s ride in the opening leg of the 2022-23 FKFPL season has been a seesaw affair. Starting on a high, recording six wins on the bounce, the Brewers looked the real deal, an unstoppable force in the title race.Yet, a rough patch set in, which resulted in them losing the league leadership to new kids on the block Nzoia Sugar FC and later Nairobi rivals Gor Mahia, who are still at the helm. The 12-time Kenyan champions seem to have bounced back lately, winning three of their last fixtures, including Wednesday’s 1-0 victory over visiting Bandari FC.With a game to spare, Robert Matano’s side is now four points off Gor Mahia, as the final leg of the season gets underway. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7079727##Having been bitten before, Matano is moving forward cautiously and will not declare title ambitions just yet.”It’s a league and every team has its high and low moments,” the four-time FKFPL winner told Mozzart Sport. “We still have 17 matches more to play and many points to fight for so it’s premature to even dream of winning the league now. Our focus now is to keep working hard and maintain the tempo, but we cannot talk about the title now,” the former AFC Leopards and Sofapaka gaffer offered.Tusker has begun strengthening the squad by signing defender Michael Kibwage, who has been training with them since December last year.Kibwage went for almost a year without action after a contractual row with his former employers, Sofapaka. The highly rated defender is already eying Harambee Stars call up. “It is a great feeling. I have been out for a long time and I am thankful to come back especially to a big club and champions. I have been welcomed well and I am ready for the task,” Kibwage told Capital FM in a recent interview. He added; “Everything happens for a reason. The national team is back and I am also back. I want to redeem myself and get back to the national team. I know that once I start playing, I will do my best because I have been there before and I know what it takes. Just a few games and I will be back.”
