Chelsea and Tottenham cruise against the relegation battling Leicester and Forest

Chelsea ended a run of eight Premier League away games without a victory, defeating Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium – a fifth straight loss in all competitions for the Foxes.Seeking a third consecutive win for the first time since October, the Blues got off to a fast start, netting with just 11 minutes on the clock. A partially-cleared Ben Chilwell corner eventually dropped to the left-back, who struck cleanly on the volley through a crowd of bodies to beat Danny Ward.João Félix came within inches of adding a second, clipping his chipped effort off the far post after some excellent close control in the build-up. The Foxes looked for a response through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, but his deflected shot from range looped onto the crossbar with Kepa Arrizabalaga rooted to the spot.Graham Potter then thought his side had doubled their lead when Félix swept home an incisive team move, but VAR ruled the goal offside. Just five minutes later, Leicester took full advantage as Patson Daka capitalised on an error in judgement from Félix and buried an effort from the edge of the box. However, parity wouldn’t last long as Chelsea restored their lead on the brink of halftime with a delicate Kai Havertz flick lobbed Ward from an inventive Enzo Fernández lobbed pass.Chelsea survived a goalline clearance after the break, before Brendan Rodgers introduced a triple change in search of a second equaliser. Yet another offside goal kept the Foxes in the contest as Mykhailo Mudryk was denied his first Premier League strike, but the Ukraine international had the last laugh as his cushioned header set up Mateo Kovačić on the volley to double the lead for Potter’s men.Wout Faes received a second yellow card late on to leave Leicester a man down as Chelsea saw out a well deserved away victory that moved them to within five points of the top-five.Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur solidified their position in the race for the top-four, sweeping Nottingham Forest aside 3-1. A fourth straight Premier League win at home sees Antonio Conte’s side open up a six-point gap on fifth place Liverpool.Reds don’t like fruit: Cherries too much for LiverpoolSpurs desperately needed to respond today following their disappointing exit from the Champions League midweek, and Liverpool’s loss earlier in the afternoon, and they did just that, having the ball in the back of the net inside three minutes. Oliver Skipp played a simple ball over the top to send Richarlison through on goal and the Brazilian smashed the ball in, but after a lengthy VAR review, it was ruled out for a marginal offside.Antonio Conte’s side continued their fast start though and an opening goal arrived not long after. Pedro Porro’s clipped ball into the box was powerfully headed in by Harry Kane. Nottingham Forest were struggling to contain the North-London outfit and soon enough their lead was doubled – Kane stepped up from the penalty spot to smash the ball into the back of the net and send his side into halftime with a two-goal lead.Nottingham Forest came out in a much more positive manner in the second half, with Brennan Johnson and Morgan Gibbs-White looking the most threatening. Johnson came close to pulling a goal back but his strike was hit straight at Fraser Forster. The game was beginning to become end-to-end, but it was the home side that made their chance count, adding a third goal. Richarlison, who had created headlines in the week for his comments on his season, was having a positive afternoon and he added an assist to his game, picking out Son Heung-Min who made no mistake, placing the ball into the bottom corner. The end-to-end manner of the game continued and Forest managed to pull a goal back in the 81st minute through Jo Worrall heading in from a corner. The visitors then had a chance to reduce the deficit to one goal in stoppage-time after Dejan Kulusevski handled the ball in the box. However, André Ayew’s penalty was saved by Forster, sealing a vital three points. The victory for Spurs firms up their position in fourth-place following Liverpool’s loss to Bournemouth earlier in the day.PREMIER LEAGUE – ROUND 27SaturdayBournemouth – Liverpool 1-0 (1-0)/Billing 28/Tottenham – Nott.Forest 3-1 (2-0)/Kane 19, 35 pen, Son 62 – Worrall 82/Everton – Brentford 1-0 (1-0)/McNeil 1/Leeds – Brighton 2-2 (1-1)/Bamford 40, Harrison 78 – Mac Allister 33, Harrison 61 og/Leicester – Chelsea 1-3 (1-2)/Daka 39 – Chilwell 11, Havertz 45+5, Kovacic 78/20:30: (10.0) Crystal Palace (5.10) Man.City (1.40)Sunday17:00: (1.40) Man.Utd.
