McKinstry tips Gor’s golden boy Omala to get better

Gor Mahia head coach Johnathan McKinstry has backed his in-form striker Benson Omala to get better, saying he has so far exploited just 60% of his potential. The striker has been the most consistent player in the league this season and has found the back of the net 19 times in 19 games, averaging a goal per game. His goals have been key to Gor Mahia’s rise to the helm of the FKF Premier League log.##NAJAVA_MECA_7087816##Already there are murmurs of the attacker leaving Gor in the near future. Kenya Police tried to recruit him weeks ago, but their overtures were rebuffed by the player, who is said to be keen on playing abroad. His coach, however, argues that he is far from a finished product. He says there are aspects of his game that still need to be fine-tuned, but lauds him for being humble and a keen learner.”I think Benson is at 60% of what he can be, so he is nowhere near a finished article yet, and he knows that we work on those things that we need to add to his game, and he works incredibly hard in training; he’s a great listener and a very humble guy, and that’s what I like; there’s not big fanfare about him…. There’s no ego about him, “McKinstry said in an interview with NTV.Benson Omala ‘s hatrick against Wazito FC pic.twitter.com/BRd3qFFb4m— Mourinho 🇰🇪 (@Itismourinho) February 15, 2023 One thing that stands out for the Irish coach in Omala is his natural goal-scoring ability, something he says can be difficult for a coach to impart on a player.”He wants to listen, he wants to improve, and it has been great to work with him. He definitely has a lot of talent and is a natural finisher, and sometimes these are things that can’t necessarily be coached that easily, that natural raw instinct that the best strikers have,” he added. He adds that the player has to maintain focus and also keep the right people around him, warning of potential detractors.”As long as he remains focused and keeps the right people around him, he will get better because talent alone doesn’t take you to the top; it’s about work rate and being surrounded by the right people to help you make the right decisions,” he continued.Omala will have a chance to find the back of the net again on Thursday when his side faces KCB in Kasarani.
