Shabana FC, the National Super League leaders, have completed the signing of striker Cornelius Juma, Mozzart Sport can confirm. The striker returns to Gusii having started his career with the Glamour Boys before moving to Nakumatt and later to Sofapaka, Mwatate United, and Kenya Police FC.##NAJAVA_MECA_7099810##He has been a free agent for the last fortnight after he was released by Kenya Police FC. The law enforcers snapped him up in 2021 when they earned a promotion to the top tier. Despite joining Police as the second-tier top scorer, he never really got opportunities in the forward line as he was often deployed as a right-back or winger.Shabana have now moved to rope him in, and he becomes the team’s fifth mid-season signing after the arrivals of Maurice Dukuly from FC Talanta, goalkeeper Erick Ongiri and utility defender George Onyango, both from APS Bomet, and midfielder Eric Mutoro from NSL side Silibwet Leons.Coach Sam Okoth, whose side have a seven-point buffer at the top, is happy with the striker’s arrival, saying all their signings were on an “on-need basis.”Our signings have been guided by needs. We did not just sign players; we went after those we believe will strengthen us and make us a better team in the second. Juma brings in experience, he was the top scorer in the second tier two seasons ago and I am happy to have him here just like I am with the other signings that we have made,” he told Mozzart Sport.Former KPL trio leading the scorers’ chart in the National Super League.Former Sofapaka forward Cornelius Juma and his ex AFC Leopards counterpart, Samuel Ndung’u have scored 15 goals each.Ex Chemelil forward Daniel Murage Mutahi has scored 12.#NSL pic.twitter.com/pnqLipBjyt— Ole Teya (@TeyaKevin) August 16, 2021 There has been growing excitement among the Shabana faithful that the team could actually return to the top tier after languishing in the lower leagues for 17 years, but Okoth is refusing to be drawn into promotion talks at this point.”We do not want to put ourselves under promotion pressure at this point; it is a game at a time for us. We picked up three points yesterday against MCF, and our focus now shifts to the next game. We will do that on repeat mode until the end of the season; we do not want to get ahead of ourselves because it can be dangerous,” he added. On Sunday, Shabana will welcome an equally promotion chasing Murang’a Seal in Kisii.
