What was supposed to an exciting encounter between FKF Premier League top teams Gor Mahia and KCB failed to live up to the billing as it ended in a barren draw at the Nyayo National Stadium. The game promised to be a thriller before kick off owing to the rankings but, none of the teams had the punch and was creative enough to find the back of the net and thus, the points were shared.Going into the game, Gor were seeking to raid KCB and exit with three points that would have seen them open an eight-point gap at the top.The bankers on the other hand, were looking to cut the record Kenyan champions down to size and eat the gap down to two points as well as seal a double over their opponent.A visitor to the facility could have easily guessed that the game, brought two top teams given the rhythm and the quality both teams displayed from onset.Even though the clear cut chances were meagre, it did not water down the quality of the game as the build ups, change of formations and the general output by either team, was eye-catching.KCB, would have breached the Gor wall and kissed the back of the net in the 16th minute but Kennedy Owino fired wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.Musa Masika had released the winger who made good use of his pace to beat his markers, producing a one on one situation with Gad Mathews but instead of lobbying the ball over the custodian, he fired wide.##NAJAVA_MECA_28047##Gor, equally had their chances with the red-hot Benson Omala and Ugandan import, Peter Lwasa coming close inside the half hour of the game. The hard-tackling John Ochieng survived a send off after dangerously hacking down Henry Onyango in the 32nd minute when the pair contested for an aerial ball.So bad was the challenge that, the KCB medics had to attend to Onyango for a couple of minutes with Ochieng also receiving attention from the other hand. The rugged Gor defence insulator, was instead, cautioned by centre referee Yassin Badir who had the clearest view as the challenge was made just yards in his sight. The neat exchanges between the two persisted with KCB, occasionally changing formation to a three-man backline that allowed the full backs to step up in a bid, to add numbers upfront.KCB goalkeeper Bryne Omondi, had his name taken by Badir in the closing stages of the first half for delaying restart, at a time when Gor were threatening to break the deadlock.Out of all the interceptions the Gor backline made, Dennis Ng’ang’a accounted for the lion share of it as the towering centre back read moves well, was excellent in positioning and made the right passes.Second half KCB threatened to take the lead immediately after the restart Masika let fly a screamer that swayed inches wide much to the relief of custodian Mathews and the entire Gor fraternity. A last ditch save by Omondi in the 60th minute denied Gor what would have been a beautiful counterattack goal as the goalkeeper put his body on the line to bar Lwasa from forcing the ball past the line. The save, came at a cost as the medics, once again, had to spring into action and attend to the custodian who was on the floor writhing in pain. Both teams, threw in fresh legs in the half, seeking to poke holes in the opposing defence and stand a chance of running away with maximum points after the fina whistle.
