Racism is preventing Wilson from becoming a manager

When Crystal Palace surprisingly sacked their manager Patrick Vieira ahead of the Arsenal match, Nantes coach Antoine Kombouare became the only black coach in all Top 5 European leagues. There are many reasons why this sad statistics is in place in Europe and Newcastle striker Callum Wilson might have provided us with one of them – racism. The Magpies forward has an idea which, in fact, better explains why there are not so many upcoming black managers in England, as people would like. Ancelotti on racism: Spain is a wonderful country, but the society is not educated enoughWilson, a prolific striker with a big injury record, had an opportunity to think about the life after football. At the age of 31, he can still play, but the amount of injuries he had left its tool on the player. However, he used his injury time well and completed his coaching badges for kids, but then realized he was not into coaching children. Coach Eddie Howe gave him the nod to pursue the coaching profession but….”My manager said to me before ‘Cal, I actually think when you finish you should consider being a manager’. But for me at the minute, coaching is probably not something I would go into. For me, racism is still a very present thing in football. That is probably what puts a lot of black players off to be honest. Now and again, throughout their journeys through the leagues, they might have experienced some form of racism from fans. It’s almost like ‘why am I going to go back and put myself in the firing line again’? Only this week, someone has been banned for being racist to Ivan Toney. It’s still very present, and that might be what’s putting black players off being managers” Wilson argued in the ‘Footballer’s Football Podcast’. Historical injustice put to sleep – first black England player gets an honorary capSpeaking with West Ham’s Antonio, Wilson went on to say that even a stadium ban for the fans who racially abuse players is not always effective. “Let’s be honest, if you were racist and you got a three-year ban from a stadium, how are they going to know you’re not going back? You get a ticket off me and come and sit in a box, how are they going to know he’s been banned for three years? There’s that many people to kind of monitor throughout that, it’s almost impossible to manage and police. If you give a three-year ban to someone who has been racially abusive to a player, the detrimental effect it might have on their mental health might last longer than three years. Some people just brush it off, it goes deeper than that for some people” explained Wilson. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7138717##
