Strange VAR decision and braces from Salah and Diogo help Liverpool demolish Leeds

Back in October 2022, Leeds were one of the teams to surprise the mighty Liverpool at Enfield. The club from the North of England unexpectedly won 2-1 and announced Liverpool’s crisis, which will probably result in omission from next year’s Champions League. But the Reds strike back with fury tonight and demolished the home team 6-1, with braces from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salad. And while Liverpool have a remote outside chance to end up as the fourth team in the league, Leeds are back in relegation battle, with only two points above the 18th place. This was the game in which Liverpool used all of its chances: seven shots on target, six goals. The Reds had possession but not as many chances as the result shows. They just had one of those nights when they were precise with every shot, while Leeds once again showed they forgot how to defend. This was not actually such an unbelievable result for the home team, because just a week before, relegation strugglers Crystal Palace also scored five goals pass Leeds at Elland Road. The crucial moment actually happened in the build-up to the first goal. Alexander-Arnold was the assistant with Cody Gakpo’s opening goal, but he clearly handballed and stopped the ball, and then gave it to the Dutchman. The goal stood out, but even the British TV pundits had a hard time explaining why VAR didn’t intervene. One of those explanations was that VAR won’t be involved with the handball unless it was a direct goal, which is also very strange, since Alexander-Arnold used his hand to make an assist for goal. It seems that not only VAR gets it wrong every week, but that nobody really knows the rules of it.🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🪄 Trent Alexander-Arnold (24) has been immense in his new full-back/midfield hybrid role in the last 2 games: ➤ 3 assists ➤ 6 chances created➤ 18 recoveries ➤ combined xA of 1.44Perfect player for an inverted position. pic.twitter.com/LPyIjzzGQT— EuroFoot (@eurofootcom) April 17, 2023 Anyway, that was the break Liverpool needed since they only had possession prior to the goal, but not the chances. And after that strange goal, the Reds were on the roll. The second goal came after only four minutes as Salah doubled the lead. Unlike the first goal, this was a clear score with poor Leeds defending, which continued throughout the game. The home fans felt some kind of hope when Sinisterra scored just at the beginning of the second half, but Diogo Jota was concentrated, just opposite to Leeds defenders, and scored the third goal five minutes later. After that, it was all over. Leeds players were clearly distracted and didn’t believe they could catch up, while Liverpool players had enough confidence to keep firing and scoring. Both Jota and Salah scored another goal, before Darwin Nunez came off the bench to add the sixth one. After this result, Jurgen Klopp’s boys can look ahead with much more confidence, as they face teams like Nottingham Forest and West Ham next.PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 31SaturdayAston Villa – Newcastle United 3-0 (1-0)/Ramsey 11, Watkins 64, 83/Southampton – Crystal Palace 0-2 (0-0)/Eze 54, 68/Chelsea – Brighton 1-2 (1-1)/Gallagher 13 – Welbeck 42, Enciso 69Everton – Fulham 1-3 (1-1)/McNeil 35 – Reed 22, Wilson 51, James 68/Tottenham – Bournemouth 2-3 (1-1)/Son 14, Danjuma 88 – Vina 38, Solanke 51, Outtara 90+5/Wolverhampton – Brentford 2-0 (1-0)/Costa 27, Hwang 69/Man.City – Leicester 3-0 (3-0)/Stones 5, Haaland 13(p), 25/SundayWest Ham United – Arsenal 2-2 (1-2)/Benrahma 33 pen, Bowen 55 – Jesus 7, Odegaard 10/Nottingham Forest – Manchester United 0-2 (0-1)/Antony 32, Dalot 76/MondayLeeds – Liverpool 1-6 (0-2)/Gakpo 35, Salah 39, 64, Jota 52, 73, Nunez 90/
