It seems that these days everybody are concerned about Chelsea, even their rivals. When Todd Boehly purchased the club from Roman Abramovich, he turned the club around, changed the personnel, changed the coach, and brought in new players worth 600 million pounds. And off course, everything changed, but for the worse. Anybody can defeat Chelsea now, the American changed another coach in less than six months and everybody are concerned. Mainly the fans, but also the current players (as some of them will be sold and some will face a pay cut), former players and even former rivals. Arsène Wenger on Arsenal: “These players have not been in that position to win the league – they will win it this year & then next year will be easier. I still fancy Arsenal. I’m not completely objective in this situation!” [@beINSPORTS_EN] #afc pic.twitter.com/Xcbx75AcM3— afcstuff (@afcstuff) April 19, 2023 Arsenal’s legend Arsene Wenger gave an interview for beIN Sports and was asked about the situation in Chelsea. The French tactician admitted that he is worried about the state of its former rival. “I would say I’m worried for Chelsea. I agree that the new president comes in and invests a lot of money. But if you don’t invest well, then you have a real problem for the future. They haven’t invested well, no. That is basically their problem today, they still have the same weaknesses they had before, they do not score enough goals, they have a lot of possession but not a lot of conversion of chances to score goals. I believe as well when you sign players for eight years it’s good for the Financial Fair Play because you can amortize the transfer over eight years but if the player is not right you have to pay the player for eight years, it’s a huge burden for the future, it’s a massive risk” said Wenger for beIN SPORTS.Boehly rips into Chelsea players in the dressing room after the Brighton defeatOne of the hot topics concerning the Blues these days is certainly a post-game dressing room speech by owner Todd Boehly, who called his players’ performance against Brighton ‘embarrassing’. And unlike Frank Lampard, who didn’t mind the owner talking regularly to the players, the French coach gave another answer. “No, I wouldn’t, that was always clear in my mind. I always put that in my contract. The advice I give to young coaches when they make contracts, I say make what is important for you, put that clearly in your contract that you are the only one, nobody can buy a player without your agreement, nobody can interfere with the team, and you are solely responsible for managing the team. Well, again, the comeback… I don’t believe in these kind of things because if I’m paid to motivate the team, to manage the team, I do not want somebody else to do my job. It happened many times where the president goes into the dressing room and doesn’t talk well at all, but the team wins because it’s a good team, he thinks after it’s because he spoke to them. It’s not always a consequence of their speech, most of the time it’s the quality of the team” explained Wenger. Drogba no longer recognises Chelsea – but Lampard can’t do anything to make things rightNot a single interview can finish without a question about Arsenal, especially now, when the Gunners are on the verge of the first title since Arsene Wenger was their coach. And the Frenchman still believes his former team will resist Manchester City’s attacks. “Arsenal and these players have not been in the position to win the league before. Hopefully they win it this year and next year it will be easier. But now, when you have never won it, there will be a moment in the season when the tension comes in. When you start thinking more about the need to win than the process and how to play, it gets difficult. I felt that at Arsenal when I was there too. I would say Arsenal still will win the title. What you want in this position is to have things in your hand. If Arsenal win their games, they win the league so that’s an ideal position with a few games to go. Of course, Man City have an opportunity when they play Arsenal and that could be the decider in the championship. I still fancy Arsenal, I’m not completely objective here, but I do. We will also have to see how much the Champions League takes out of Man City” said Wenger. ##NAJAVA_MECA_7190026##
