The 2023 CECAFA Zone CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers will be held in Uganda in August this year, the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has confirmed following a meeting held on Tuesday.The tournament is expected to kick off on 12 August and culminate on 26 August 2023 according to the zonal body.Kenya will be hoping to send a representative to this year’s edition after missing out last year due to the FIFA suspension imposed on Football Kenya Federation then.##NAJAVA_MECA_7208817##This will be the third edition of the competition, the inaugural one having taken place in Nairobi in 2021 before Tanzania played host in 2022.Vihiga Queens, who are currently in a tight title battle in the Kenya Women Premier League with Gaspo Women won the first edition with Simba Queens winning the subsequent one.”In the same meeting held on Tuesday, it was agreed that the Women’s Champions League for the Zone takes place August 12-26th in Uganda,” part of a statement by CECAFA read.The confirmation comes at a time when Uganda are set to stage their last Group F Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying home match against Algeria in Cameroon in June with renovation work at the Mandela International Stadium yet to be completed.Kariobangi Sharks defender relieved after overcoming injuryIn a press statement on Tuesday, FUFA, the country’s football body, confirmed they will host Algeria in Cameroon, while expressing disappointment at slow work at Uganda’s biggest stadium which is currently under renovation.FUFA described the work as very slow and insensitive to cries of the public to be able to host the matches in Uganda.“I call upon the relevant government authorities to urgently cancel the contracts of the contractors and supervisors and immediately procure experienced service providers in stadium construction even if it means being obtained from outside Uganda.
