FKF Premier League side Mathare United has made new appointments to their technical bench as they seek to avoid relegation from the top tier. The team currently occupies the playoff spot, and Wazito’s recent resurgence means they risk dropping into the second relegation spot if their fortunes do not change for the better soon. The Slum Boys have lost their last five league matches.##NAJAVA_MECA_7217569##The club has been under goalkeeping coach Sam Koko for almost three months. He was handed the club in February 2023, when the club axed head coach Boniface Omondi. He started well, getting wins over the likes of Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, but in recent weeks, the going has gotten tough. The club has now turned to seasoned tacticians to turn their fortunes around. Kenya U20 head coach Stanley Okumbi, who is a former Slum Boys head coach, returns to the club. He will serve as the technical director until the end of the season.Replacing Koko is former Posta Rangers assistant coach Collins ‘Korea’ Omondi, who will work hand in hand with Okumbi. The pair worked together at Posta in the 2021/22 season. These are appointments that we believe will help us avoid relegation,” CEO Jacktone Obure told Mozzart Sport. The club will also bring in an assistant coach. “We leave that to the head coach, but we expect him to get an assistant that he will work with closely,” he added.Mathare’s next league assignment will be against Gor Mahia on Wednesday 3 May.
