Misfits with fancy footwork are always admired in Italy – even when they’re getting old

They say class is permanent and it’s there to shine even when you get older. There are so many examples of players on the “wrong” side of 30 defying logic and the years to deliver top-class performances. Olivier Giroud, Fabio Quagliarella, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ciro Immobile, and Edin Dzeko are just some of those who made their living in the Serie A, banging in goals despite the onrush of young talents. One of those players is Bologna’s striker Marko Arnautovic. The 34-year-old Austria international of Serbian background has been so good for the Renato Dall’Ara club that he’s now wanted by Italian greats Roma and Milan.##NAJAVA_MECA_7244793##The former Stoke City, West Ham and Werder Bremen attacker has scored 14 goals in 33 league appearances last season under the guidance of the sadly departed Sinisa Mihajlovic. However, Arnautovic has recently fallen out of favour with Mihajlovic’s successor Thiago Motta – and would prefer to leave Bologna rather than sit on the bench.Italian daily La Repubblica writes that Milan and Roma are interested to sign Arnautovic and give him a new lease of life next season. After all, he’s the kind of maverick the fans and coaches adore in Italy. They may not be quite so quick as they once were, but they offer experience, knowledge and the undeniable gift of scoring goals. Sometimes, that’s all that counts.Happy Birthday to Marko Arnautović, who turns 34 today. This turn and finish for Austria was special. 🎁🇦🇹pic.twitter.com/LkFKBLumJ8— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) April 19, 2023 Arnautovic’s contract has another two years to run and his market value is estimated at around $10 million. Roma boss Jose Mourinho and Milan’s tactician Stefano Pioli hope to get the Austran misfot for a fraction of the price, though, because Bologna have no use of paying him just to sit on the sidelines.
