AFC Leopards’ CEO rallies fans ahead of Mashemeji Derby

AFC Leopards CEO Victor Bwibo feels the club’s supporters will show up on Sunday for the Mashemeji Derby despite boycott calls from a section of the club’s decision-makers.Ingwe’s chairmen caucus have urged the fans to keep staying away from the stadium for what they termed an injustice from the federation. This came after the club was slapped with a fine and a stadium ban for fans, among other sanctions, following the chaos that was witnessed last month at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega during a match against the Homeboyz that was abandoned in the first half.##NAJAVA_MECA_7244862##The stadium ban for fans was temporarily lifted by the federation’s appeals committee, but Ingwe’s chairman’s caucus has urged the fans to stay away from the stadium ahead of Sunday’s derby against arch-rivals Gor Mahia in a battle for points and bragging rights.Bwibo, however, feels that it may be difficult for the fans to boycott the derby. He, however, appeared supportive of the fans’ feelings that the club has been an easy target.”AFC Leopards fans feel aggrieved; they feel that they are always a target whenever there are issues, and so they made a statement in the last few matches. I do, however, think that with the tempo and the emotions that come with the derby, they might think otherwise and be there to cheer our team. We will be there in good numbers; you saw the game against Nzoia; fans attended while others followed online, and I think that the turnout will still be impressive,” he stated.MASHEMEJI DERBY is a titanic battle between arch-rivals Gor Mahia & AFC Leopards.AFC Leopards fans, why would you opt to boycott the match?#Ingwe#FKFPL #FootballKE pic.twitter.com/hgKcQrxhyU— vumaSPORT (@vumaSPORT) May 11, 2023 “This is a signature match in our league calendar, and I am sure that it will still be an entertaining match. I invite everyone to attend the match, and I call on AFC Leopards fans to keep supporting the team,” he added.Ingwe have not beaten Gor Mahia since 2016, but Bwibo feels the woeful run might be brought to a halt on Sunday.”This is the match where we get bragging rights, and this time I think the bragging rights will be with our team… This time around, I think we are well prepared, and I ask the fans to be supportive of the team,” he added. The match, which starts at 3 p.m., will be live on Azam TV.
