Kakamega Homeboyz are in line for continental football should league leaders Tusker FC see off pressure from Gor Mahia and Nzoia Sugar FC to lift this year’s league title. The Kakamega-based club stunned AFC Leopards in the Mozzart Bet Cup semis on Saturday to secure a final berth. They will play Tusker FC, who needed a last-minute goal to beat Ulinzi Stars in the other semifinal.##NAJAVA_MECA_7268627##Should Tusker win the league and also beat Homeboyz in the Cup final, they will automatically qualify for both the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup competitions, but since they cannot take part in both, they will have to settle for the CAF Champions League, which is a superior competition, and the federation will have to admit the Patrick Odhiambo-led team in the CAF Confederation Cup.CAF Confederation Cup rules of engagement allow the federation to admit the runner-up if the Cup winner cannot be engaged in the CAF Confederation Cup for one reason or another, with participating in the CAF Champions League being one of the reasons.Should the Homeboyz secure continental football, it will be the first time they will be playing outside the Kenyan borders, coming just after winning the FA Cup for the first time ever. The two teams have already met twice this season in the league with Homeboyz losing both home and away to the Robert Matano led team. Two quick goals from Shummah Moses (29′) and Kevin Amwayi(31) have given Homeboyz the lead in the opening 31 mins.Wamewacha kucheza isukuti🤣#MozzartBetCup #SportOn pic.twitter.com/ycFxIt9fMI— Elijah Ouko (@elijah_ouko) May 20, 2023 Part of CAF Confederation Cup’s rules of engagement1.
