AFC Leopards coach hints at imminent squad surgery as some players face uncertain future

AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems has announced that some of the players will be let go of when the season ends while some have three matches to convince the technical staff that they deserve to be with the team next season. The announcement came after the 2-1 defeat to Nairobi City Stars on Monday afternoon at the Nyayo National Stadium. This was a second defeat in a row for Ingwe after the Cup exit a week ago.Leopards went ahead in the game through a Victor Omune first half strike before Kelvin Etemesi took matters into his own hands with a double in the second half to win his team the game that many would agree they were deserved winners. The Belgian tactican appeared upset with his team’s overall performance and shortly after City Stars had scored the leveller , he retreated to his seat and watched his team concede a late winner. He says they have to do well in the remaining duels.”They (players) are competitors and we cannot say that it’s over or it’s finished. We have to put up a performance in the remaining games,” The former Simba coach stated. He went on to announce that the die was cast for some player while some are in a race against time to earn new deals.”It’s the end of the season and some players maybe will not stay, some players will not see their contracts renewed and so they also need to fight for themselves in the remaining three games,” he added. After a two-window ban, Ingwe will be able to recruit players before the start of the 2023/24 campaign and a host of players are already being linked with moves to the club.Ingwe had been slapped with a FIFA ban for recruiting players during a period that they had been banished from signing until they settle monies that they owed to their former foreign legion that had reported them to FIFA.During that period they were forced to work with a lean squad that was badly bit with injuries in the second. They managed to reach the Mozzart Bet Cup semis before losing to Kakamega Homeboyz.
