Former Harambee Stars player Sammy Kempes Owino has pledged to reward Kenya Women Premier League side Gaspo Women with half a million shillings as prize money for finishing second in the league that concluded over the weekend.Gaspo, who finished behind champions log leaders Vihiga Queens, went home with nothing while the winners, Vihiga Queens, were rewarded with Ksh 1 Million by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF).Speaking in Eldoret, Owino, commonly known as Kempes promised that the team would receive the monies as soon as possible.Vihiga Queens pocket Ksh 1 million on coronation day, Kisumu All Starlets relegated“Kenyans are used to empty promises and lies. This time, we are talking and doing what is expected. We will give you the money as soon as we can. If it is possible to give today or tomorrow, we will do it.” said Owino.“When I heard about the issues about the women league runners-up that they are having and Mama Diouf (Charity Wangoma) made a plea, I decided to donate half a million shillings to the team. They are not going home empty-handed,” Owino continued.The American-based Kenyan was accompanied by former Harambee Stars player Sammy Sholei and 14 other football officials from Rift Valley.
