To say it was a good start for Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele would be putting it lightly.
Both players from California shot 8-under 62 out of the morning wave Thursday at the 2023 U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club. The scores were the lowest in the 123-year history of the U.S. Open, and they tied the major championship record, which Branden Grace set in the third round of the 2017 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale.
However, outside of Fowler and Schauffele’s stellar starts, the next best rounds in the morning wave at LACC were 3-under 67s shot by the likes of Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and others.

However, that didn’t prevent fans on Twitter complaining about the course and its setup, which is one of the more unique in U.S. Open history.
