Sammy ‘Kempes’ Owino has acquired 75 acres of land in the outskirts of Nairobi and intends to build a state of the art football academy that will transform the fortunes of youth football in Kenya and Africa .The US-based former Harambee Stars and Gor Mahia midfielder has kick started his plan of building the academy on the 75 acre parcel of land and will later on Thursday visit the site.“The academy will develop future Harambee stars players, develop them for the European market and make Kenya a competitive country in football,” Owino told Mozzart Sport.

Kempes says he has given enough to US football where he has a 32-acre academy in Texas and now plans to start investing back home, with a view of raising the next generation of stars.“There are three things that are very important to consider in order to develop football anywhere in the world. The first is to eliminate corruption because it is holding back the development of football. Then you need good academies with international standards as well as making sure you raise coaching standards.
