Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has announced that the Kenya U18 women’s team will break camp on Friday, all but confirming that the much anticipated CECAFA U18 Women’s tournament may not happen after all.The tournament has been postponed three times by the regional football management body. The competition was to kick off tomorrow in Nairobi, but it has now been postponed indefinitely, and with some nations said to have withdrawn from the tournament altogether, it appears that the tournament may not happen after all.##NAJAVA_MECA_7342447##The Kenyan team has been in camp for three weeks now in readiness for the tournament and has featured in a couple of friendly games under the stewardship of coach Beldine Odemba.The federation has, however, resolved to release the players, a decision that they say was a difficult one to make as they were keen on seeing Kenya feature in a tournament for the first time since the FIFA ban was lifted.FKF statementFootball Kenya Federation deeply regrets to announce the cancellation of the Junior Starlets Camp, which was intended to prepare our talented young footballers for the CECAFA U18 tournament. This decision has been made due to the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the tournaments’ scheduling.FKF has always prioritized the development and growth of our young footballers, and the Junior Starlets team was an essential part of our commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for our youth. The Federation acknowledges the hard work, dedication, and sacrifices made by the players and coaching staff throughout the preparation period.The team, which has been in camp at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, since June 8, 2023, held their last training session today with a friendly match against Mathare United Women. The players and the technical staff will be released from camp on Friday, June 30, 2023.FKF wishes to extend its gratitude to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Arts, and Sports and the Ministry of Education for their commitment and efforts granted to the team as it prepared for the tournament.It will be interesting to see if the other planned tournaments for the year will be held. Ethiopia are set to host the CECAFA U-23 Championship in July, while the Kagame CECAFA Club Championship takes place in August and the Zonal Women’s Champions League qualifier is in Uganda.
