Kenya to partner with Serbia in football development

Kenya is set to partner with Serbia in initiatives meant to develop football, Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has announced. Namwamba met with Serbian ministers of Sports, Culture and the president and general secretary of the Football Association of Serbia during his two-day visit in Belgrade. He visited the Sports Center, one of the most modernly equipped football centers in Europe, and met with Dragan Džajić and Jovan Šurbatović, president and general secretary of the Serbian Football Association. During the meeting, they discussed modalities of potential cooperation. Two delegations agreed cooperation which will start with youth and women football development and Harambee Stars training camps. Serbia’s National team recently participated in the World Cup in Qatar, while they currently share first place in Group G, after three qualifying games for EURO 2024. Women’ National Team of Serbia failed to qualify for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be played in Australia and New Zealand. In a strong group, featuring current World Champion Germany (ranked 2nd) and Portugal (21st) among others, Serb ladies (34th in the world) manage to beat Germany, but finished just one point below Portugal. Ababu Namwamba also met with Serbian minister of Sports, former Olympic gold medal winning volleyball coach Zoran Gajić as well as minister of Culture, Ms. Maja Gojković. Kenya was the honorary host of the Afro Festival in Belgrade, which has been held at the Museum of African Art for 20 years, and which was highly attended by visitors who had the opportunity to enjoy culture, music, dance, as well as traditional cultural heritage of Kenya. Future cooperation with both ministries was agreed during the visit.
