Young midfielder Fabio Carvalho has left Liverpool and has signed a season-long loan agreement with RB Leipzig. Burnley, West Ham, and Bournemouth were among the Premier League teams to reach out to Liverpool in recent weeks regarding Carvalho’s status as it became evident the Reds were looking to arrange a temporary switch. The opportunity to send Carvalho to a team competing in the UEFA Champions League was too good to pass up. Leipzig’s attempts were the most proactive. The German club tried to sign Carvalho on a permanent deal last month or at least include a clause to make the loan permanent, but Liverpool decided they wouldn’t want to give up on the youngster who has a bright future in the game.Liverpool confirm Fabio Carvalho has joined RB Leipzig on a season-long loan. There is no option or obligation to buy.🔴 pic.twitter.com/46PwyhXTLB— Ben Jacobs (@JacobsBen) June 30, 2023 In an effort to restart a career that has stalled since the turn of the year, Carvalho has now signed on with the Red Bulls for the upcoming season after completing a physical in Germany on Thursday. He has joined Liverpool from Fulham a year ago and has showed glimpses of his vast talent. However, the tough team competition at Anfield made it nearly impossible for him to play regularly – something he really needs at this stage of his career.”As a young player, it’s a big step for me to move from England to the Bundesliga and RB Leipzig. I’m joining a strong side, one that has been very successful in recent years. I want to help build on this and look forward to taking on a new challenge. My goal is to play as much as possible, in the league, the cup and especially in the UEFA Champions League. RB Leipzig have a reputation for giving young players these kinds of opportunities, which is why this is the perfect club for me to continue my development at.”The 20-year-old Portuguese boy started just one game in 2023 – an FA Cup victory over Wolves in January. The former Fulham teenager was keen to secure more game-time for the 2023/24 campaign, something which is not guaranteed at Anfield as their efforts to strengthen the midfield department.##NAJAVA_MECA_7347556##Klopp has always been full of praise for the youngster and admitted it caused him pain every time he’s had to leave Fabio out of the team. Maybe a year in Germany will make a man out of the boy.”What a talent he is, hey? A player who can bring a stadium to its feet. He puts his personality into his performances, he is confident and adventurous with the ball, and he wants to make things happen. He is a versatile player for sure and is very much an attacking threat with his creativity and dynamism.”And while senior Liverpool figures are adamant that Carvalho’s best years remain at Anfield, both the club and the player are confident that Leipzig will offer the best environment for him to start to fulfil the potential that made him one of the most coveted young players in Europe at the turn of 2022.
