Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Division Two side Meru Bombers are one match away from relegation to the fifth tier, as per the club’s Chairman Bonface Ouma.The Meru – based club failed to show up for their away matches aganist Asu FC and Nkanas FC over the weekend, citing financial woes and with no situation change, the oldest club in Meru County could be forced to quit the stage. However,In an interview with Mozzart Sport, FKF Division Two Eastern Zone Secretary General Samuel Mwongela claims the club has issued three walkovers aganist Asu FC, Kapa FC, and Nkanas. “My records indicate they have given three walkovers. My office is waiting for the match officials report lastest on Wednesday before rendering verdict but I’m informed they stand relegated .” Said Mwongela Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Club Chairman Bonface Ouma indicated that the board decided to take the bitter decision due to the hard economic times which has pushed sponsors away leaving them on the hands of a few well wishers. “Meru Bombers is a historic club in Meru, we have graced the Kenya Premier League in three stints and seven seasons in division two but we cannot continue anymore. This is not limited to a whole scale handover of the club to any interested and capable party who are able to steer the club forward. “After an impressive performance in the first leg, the second leg of this season has been difficult for the club to near demise. A sponsorship agreement started at the beginning of the year did not materialize leaving the club with the support of a few well wishers who have been providing the main support to the club for the last seven years,” a statement from the club reads in part, “With this in mind and the consideration of the place of Meru Bombers in Kenya’s football history and people of Meru, the current trustees have chosen to call for a strategic intervention on the club . The intervention includes but not limited to a wholesale handover of the club to any interested and capable party who is able to steer the club to the heights of its promise,” it adds. The club, coached by former Gor Mahia forward Moses “Dube” Odhiambo, has however called on several Kenya’s top flight outfits for a series of friendlies in the pre- season in a bid to profile the legendary Kinoru Stadium. Bombers are currently placed eleventh in the league standings with twenty six points from twenty clubs.
