Nairobi City Stars midfielder recounts witnessing Gor Mahia’s ‘champions moment’

Just over a fortnight ago, Nairobi City Stars midfielder Elvis Noor froze at the technical area after the center referee in the match pitting Simba wa Nairobi and Gor Mahia, Badir Yassin, blew the final whistle.Gor Mahia had won the match 4-1 and in so doing secured a record-extending 20th title in the history of their existence.Other City Stars players and technical bench members were whisked away but Noor watched it all as K’Ogalo players dashed to stand 13 of the expansive Kasarani Stadioum, then did a lap of honor. He soaked in the moment and only made his way to the dressing room when Gor Mahia fans started making their way onto the pitch.##NAJAVA_MECA_7358671##From the bench area to the dugout, bumping into the euphoric Gor Mahia fans, he said only one statement: “I want to be a champion one day!””I want to enjoy that feeling and atmosphere of being a champion one day. I believe I will be a champion one day. I will continue believing and working and hoping that everything will be better,” Noor said.In the just-ended season, Noor made 25 league appearances, clocking a total of 1411 minutes, a season that the club’s CEO says was a big improvement for him from the previous one.The midfielder played a similar number of matches in his first season in the topflight with City Stars, clocking 1035 minutes but saw the number drop to just 635 minutes in 14 appearances during the 2021/22 season as he had to fight for the slot in midfield with Sven Yidah.Tactical look at Siwa’s versatile role at Tusker last seasonReflecting on the concluded season, Noor offered that the team did well in the second leg to overcome a disastrous first-leg campaign but maintained hope for a better outing in the 2023/24 season.”We were shaky at the start of the season but in the second leg, we came through well to a strong finish. I did not have the best of seasons, there have been ups and downs but I hope next season will be better,” he added.Noor is the elder brother to Sweden-based Timothy ‘Babu’ Ouma and says the youngster’s move to Europe is a revelation that anyone can make it big.”It gives me great motivation to see him play at that level because he is a person who has come from far. It is a clear indication that with commitment and the right focus, anyone can play in such levels,” he finished.
