Nairobi City Stars have confirmed the departure of defender Kennedy ‘Vidic’ Onyango on a free transfer.The player has subsequently joined Gor Mahia on a two-year deal that will see him stay at the Kenyan champions until 2025.According to City Stars Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Patrick Korir, the defender will be missed after a great performance in the just concluded season.“He is a very solid player at the back and it is sad to see him go. He gave us some great service and we wish him all the best at Gor Mahia,” said Korir.##NAJAVA_MECA_7368502##He also announced that the club will maintain majority of the current squad and will make additions where necessary from the lower leagues as they are not interested in big names.“We had a pretty inexperienced squad last season but now they have gained experience by playing in most matches.“Some have played 27 matches, others 24 while the average 20. In essence they understand the league better and we remain confident they will do better next season,”he said. He said they are also encouraged by the signing of former Kangemi All Stars striker Kelvin Etemesi who was the team’s top scorer last season.“No one knew anything about Etemesi but he has proved to us that there are great players in the lower leagues. “So our focus now will be on getting talents from the lower leagues and the highest will be the National Super League (NSL).”City Stars resume training next week hoping to have a better season after barely surviving relegation last season.The team will open the new season against the winner of the FKFPL play-offs on August 27 at home.The play-offs will feature Muhoroni Youth against Wazito. The first leg will be played on Saturday in Migori with the second leg one week later at Muhoroni Stadium.
