Kenya to miss CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship as tournament is moved to Tanzania

The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has moved the CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship from Kenya to Tanzania.Auka Gecheo, the CECAFA Executive Director confirmed on Monday that the tournament will now take place from July 25th to August 7th in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.Kenya was meant to host the Championship from June 29th to July 11th in Nairobi, but the competition was pushed further ahead because of delay in funding.The Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) has moved the CECAFA U-18 Women’s Championship from Kenya to Tanzania.Kenya will not take part with CECAFA SG saying that is because of ongoing school games and examinations around the same period.#CECAFA pic.twitter.com/y3fBaCMkxS— Ochieng’ Stephen (@soo_ochieng) July 17, 2023 However, after CECAFA members met in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire last week on the sidelines of the CAF Ordinary Assembly, it was decided that the Championship be hosted by Tanzania at the Chamazi Stadium.The teams expected to participate include; Tanzania, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, and Zanzibar.Auka said Kenya will not take part in the Championship because of ongoing school games and later examinations around the same period.##NAJAVA_MECA_7370818##Initially, Kenya’s Rising Starlets had been in camp for three weeks before Football Kenya Federation broke the camp due to delay in funding.“Football Kenya Federation deeply regrets to announce the cancellation of the Junior Starlets Camp, which was intended to prepare our talented young footballers for the CECAFA U18 tournament.
