Barca is close to selling more of the club’s media company to stay afloat

The main buzzword last year, promoted by Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, was “economic levers.” It was utilized to sell two separate 24.5% interests in Barca Studios to Socios and Orpheus Media as well as a percentage of future broadcast rights earnings to investment firm Sixth Street, which together allowed the Catalans to purchase new players.Barcelona is crumbling without cash – and so is their legendary stadiumFor their respective portions, Socios and Orpheus Media agreed to each pay $110 million. At least $11 million was initially given out, but the two organizations both missed $33 payments that were due last month, leaving Barca with a $66.8 million deficit in their books. Less than 24 hours later, El Confidencial has revealed that a German private company will immediately transfer the much-needed $66.8 million to the club’s coffers for a 16% piece of Barca Studios. This still leaves the club owning 34% of its multimedia arm, and the development comes as a relief with the start of the La Liga season on the horizon in just over two weeks.Barca begin their defence of the La Liga title with an away trip to Getafe on 12 August.
