Njung’e clears out on City Stars exit, feels ‘fresh’ for new challenge

The now former Nairobi City Stars goalkeeper Steve Njung’e is treating his exit from Simba wa Nairobi in two folds. On one hand, it’s a bitter pill for him to walk away from a club he has served for the last few years, but on the other, an opportunity to embrace a new challenge in his ever growing footballing career.Go and shine, Steve Njunge🌟Thank you for everything and good luck in your next chapter ❤️#NCS #simbawanairobi #FPL pic.twitter.com/NzRqEt6V8K— Official Nairobi City Stars Fc (@NrbCityStars) July 25, 2023 Speaking after his confirmed exit from the club on Monday, Njung’e clarified that him leaving City Stars wasn’t in bad faith, and that the discussions between both parties had ended in a ‘mutual agreement.’On his time at the Nicholas Muyoti led side, Njung’e, a former Wazito FC player said: “It has been an absolute honor to serve this club. When I came in some three years ago, I didn’t envisage a situation where I would go straight into the team and gain as much experience as I did. Looking back, on all fronts, that was a special moment for me with my teammates.”Coming in during the 2020-2021 season, Njung’e initially signed a two-year deal at the Kawangware-based club before extending his deal for another year – one that expired last Jun, and triggered talks between him and the club on the best path forward.##NAJAVA_MECA_7395033##“The first season was one of my best,” Njung’e said. “Finishing runners-up in the clean sheets category was special for me and put me up there among the best goalkeepers in the country.”The 28 year old then endured a tough outing the following season with injury, only featuring for four games, all setting up to his last year at City Stars, where he clocked well over 1000 minutes in 13 games, while achieving a land-mark half century starts.“Rebounding from the shoulder injury I had in the curtailed season was frustrating but it’s all about how you rebound. So 13 starts in a competitive goalkeeper room, and hitting over 50 games is a big milestone,” the 6 foot two shot stopper added. His earned experience and financial stability is something he says will live in his mind as he departs, but hopes for a brighter future as his sought ‘challenge’ approaches.Nairobi City Stars confirm departure of seven players“I have no ceiling to what I can achieve,” he said. “I feel ready for my next step, and it should be a good journey.”Other confirmed exits from City Stars have been second choice goalkeeper Jacob Osano, Salim Abdallah, Ezekiel Odera, Herrit Mungai and Kennedy Onyango.
