Michael Conlan and Jordan Gill squared off in the main event live on DAZN from SSE Arena Belfast in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Saturday, December 2. The contest featured local former two-time world title challenger up against former European and Commonwealth champion of England.
The scheduled for 12 rounds super featherweight bout didn’t go the full distance. Gill came out on top, sending Conlan to the canvas in the second round, along the way. Referee Howard Foster stepped in and waved the fight off at 1 minute and 9 seconds into the seventh round to save the representative of the country-host from further punishment, following a barrage of punches from the guest.
With the victory by TKO, Jordan Gill improved to 28-2-1, 9 KOs and landed the WBA International super featherweight belt. The 29-year-old of Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire returned to winning ways, after he lost his EBU European title against Kiko Martinez last October.
Michael Conlan dropped to 18-3, 9 KOs. Belfast’s 32-year-old went through the ropes for the second time in 2023 and suffered his second straight defeat, after he was stopped by Luis Alberto Lopez in his bid to claim IBF featherweight title in May.
