Second win in a row for Lyon! Can Les Gones survive in the top-tier?

Bottom side Olympique Lyonnais caused a shock by becoming the first visiting team this Ligue 1 season to leave Stade Louis II with three points after weathering the Monaco storm and striking late to win 1-0.Buoyed by their 3-0 success over Toulouse last week, Lyon made a bright start but failed to test home goalkeeper Philipp Köhn. The first chance fell Monaco’s way on 12 minutes when Takumi Minamino played Folarin Balogun through, yet his shot was saved by Anthony Lopes before Krépin Diatta’s attempt on the rebound was blocked by Nicolás Tagliafico. Lyon went straight down the other end and thought they had taken the lead, however, Ernest Nuamah’s finish was ruled out for a clear offside. It was not until the last 10 minutes of the half that Monaco started to show their strength; Balogun and Maghnes Akliouche forced great stops from Lopes, but Adi Hütter’s side could not make a breakthrough before halftime.##EDITORS_CHOICE##Les Rouges et Blancs maintained their pressure after the break, coming close through Mohamed Camara’s powerful drive which clipped the outside of the post in the 53rd minute. In a rare foray forward two minutes later, Lyon had their first effort on target as Alexandre Lacazette – confident after his hat-trick last week – tried his luck from 25 yards, but Köhn made the save. The status quo resumed soon after, though, as either side of the hour mark Youssouf Fofana dragged an effort wide and Balogun continued to threaten with two more chances, the latter thwarted by Lopes. When Fofana’s header from a corner went agonisingly wide 15 minutes from time, it seemed as though Monaco would have to settle for a point. However, their evening went from bad to worse five minutes from time when Ainsley Maitland-Niles orchestrated a superb counterattack down the right before squaring to Jeffinho, who slotted his first of the season past Köhn. Pierre Sage’s men secure back-to-back wins for the first time and climb off the foot of the table as Monaco lose at home for the first time since the last day of last season.LIGUE 1 – MATCHDAY 16Friday Monaco – Olympique Lyon 0-1 (0-0)/Jeffinho 85/Saturday 19.00: (4.30) Le Havre (3.45) Nice (2.00)23.00: (1.95) Lens (3.60) Reims (4.20)Sunday15.00: (2.70) Nantes (3.25) Brest (2.90)17.00: (2.55) Lorient (3.30) Strasbourg (3.05)17.00: (3.20) Metz (3.40) Montpellier (2.40)17.00: (3.20) Toulouse (3.50) Rennes (2.35)19.05: (1.45) Olympique Marseille (4.40) Clermont (7.50)22.45: (4.10) Lille (3.50) PSG (1.90)***odds are subject to change***
