Eldoret-based FKF Division I Zone B side GFE 105 FC is counting losses after their van caught fire when they were on their way back to Eldoret on Sunday 6 January.The team was traveling to the City of Champions after honoring their league match against St Joseph’s FC in Nakuru which ended in a barren draw.Their car had an engine problem that made it difficult to climb the hilly roads, causing it to burst into flames in Salgaa.Njuguna all the more motivated after bagging elusive goalSpeaking on the harrowing incident, the team’s tactician Nicholas Okinyo pointed out that no player was hurt, but the team lost two pairs of uniforms, soccer balls, cones, and boots among other valuables.”We are grateful to God that none of our players was hurt. We, however, lost most of our equipment, and we have to start from scratch,” Okinyo, a Caf ‘A’ coaching course student told Mozzart Sport.According to Okinyo, the van had mechanical issues when they left Eldoret and the team was forced to stop severally and have the issue sorted. Team manager Livingstone Wambua is said to have requested for another van, but was adviced to proceed with the faulty vehicle.They arrived in Nakuru safely, played the match, but the disaster happened on their way back. When they approached Salgaa, a section of pedestrians informed them that their van had started oozing smoke.They would then stop, and all players got out of the van, just in time for the explosion.
