Wolves hope to capitalize on Brentford’s streak of six winless games

One of only two Premier League replays of the FA Cup third round takes place at Molineux on Tuesday night, when Wolverhampton host Brentford. Gary O’Neill’s side managed to earn a 1-1 draw away to the Bees on January 5, despite playing over 80 minutes of the contest with one man less on the pitch. The trip to west London proved rather pointless for the Wolves pack 11 days ago as a disastrous first half against Brentford saw Joao Gomes sent off nine minutes into the game, before Neil Moppe gave the Bees the lead just before the break holiday. The last time we faced Brentford, @Tommy_Doyle8 did 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 💥 pic.twitter.com/T5y5LM7b7F— Wolves (@Wolves) January 16, 2024 However, whatever O’Neill had to say to his ten men during the half-time break backfired as Brentford failed to hold on to their lead and succumbed to Tommy Doyle’s 64th-minute equalizer, largely thanks to Portuguese Pedro Neto’s eighth assist of the season (only Bukayo Saka (11) and James Ward-Prowse (10) have more). Doyle’s equalizer also extended Wolverhampton’s unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions, with none of their previous eight home matches ending in defeat. The last time Wolves celebrated was a 3-0 home win over Everton on December 30, which was Wolves’ fourth celebration in their last five home games. From Brentford’s perspective, playing Wolves again is at least an improvement, as strange as that may sound. Because the two teams clashed in the league on December 30, when the Wolves won 4:1. A fuming Thomas Frank insisted his boys were the only to blame for failing to get the job done, but even the draw was a positive aspect as the Bees had previously been on a five-game losing streak.FA CUPThird round replaysTuesday22.30: (1.90) Wolverhampton (3.50) Brentford (4.10)22.45: (4.20) Bristol City (3.50) West Ham (1.90)22.45: (2.85) Bolton (3.40) Luton (2.45)22.45: (2.25) Birmingham (3.45) Hull (3.15)22.45: (2.60) Eastleigh (3.40) Newport (2.70)Wednesday22.45: (3.90) Blackpool (3.50) Nott.Forest (1.95)22.45: (2.00) Everton (3.40) Crystal Palace (3.90)22.45: (2.85) Bristol Rovers (3.40) Norwich (2.30)***odds are subject to change
