Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) side KCB continued their battle with a former Protégé FC club who is claiming close to Ksh1 Million for alleged breach of contract.The player Eric Kinuthia Maina wants to be paid the money after he claims in a suit filed at the Sports Dispute Tribunal (SDT) that the bankers failed to pay him despite having offered him a contract.During cross-examination on Tuesday, Maina told the tribunal that he was offered a contract in September 2019 offering him a salary of Ksh 30,000 per month and a winning bonus of Ksh1,500.How coach Godfrey “Solo” Oduor was arrested amidst financial dispute with FKFThe former Nairobi Stima player further alleges that he was also to be paid a sign-on fee of Sh.500,000 to be split between himself and the defunct Stima.“I was offered the contract by one Stephen Othoro who said he was representing KCB. However, despite signing the contract my salary was not paid in the first month of the contract.On inquiring I was told by Othoro that I had opened an account at KCB where the money was to be paid late and he promised that I would be paid in the second month. Even after the second month, the money was not paid,” he said.He further claims that he was seconded to Protégé FC which was a youth team of KCB a move he says did not please him since he felt ready to play in the senior team.##NAJAVA_MECA_7808522##“Because of the breach of contract, I want KCB to pay my two-year salary, damages, interest and cost of the suit,” he pleaded.But during cross-examination by KCB FC lawyer Kivindyo Munyao the team sought to disassociate itself from Protégé FC.Munyao provided documents to prove that Maina signed the contract between himself and Protégé FC and challenged the player to produce any documentation to prove otherwise.The contract that Maina kept referring to was signed between himself and one Eliakim Kindingi on behalf of Protégé FC. The hearing will continue next Monday afternoon.In 2019, KCB and Protégé FC signed a deal to work together in a player development program.
