Introduction of a ‘blue card’ blasted by Premier League managers

Either football world is not prepared for the innovations in the game coming from International Football Association Board, or the innovation is simply not good. The lates idea from IFAB (the International Football Association Board concerns with referee’s card and would introduce a new one, after over 50 years – the blue card. The initiative was set to see players sent to a 10-minute sin-bin for cynical fouls and showing dissent towards officials, in a rule similar to yellow cards being shown in rugby. Receiving a blue and a yellow, or two blues, will have the same result as two yellows, and see players sent off. The announcement however was cancelled due to huge fans backlash.A blue card 🟦 is to be introduced in professional football as part of sin-bin trials, according to @TeleFootball 😲The card will see players removed from the field for 10 minutes if they commit a cynical foul or show dissent ❌ pic.twitter.com/dcNV6ARsrb— 433 (@433) February 8, 2024 And the managers had their say about the new card also. Jurgen Klopp was asked about it and wasn’t keen on the idea, on the contrary.“We should keep it as simple as somehow possible, for the referees as well. The introduction of a blue card would just give more opportunities to fail as well because the discussion will be “It was a blue card, should it have been a yellow card? Or “Now it’s 10 minutes off, in the good old times it would have been a red card or only a yellow.” These kinds of things just make it more complicated. It doesn’t sound like a fantastic idea in the first moment but actually I can’t remember the last fantastic idea came from these guys, if they ever had one. I am 56 and, bah, never!” said the German. The champions want wins ten in a row – but wounded lions are against themAs one of the teams with most yellow cards in the league, Newcastle’s manager Eddie Howe is certainly against it.“I’m not a big fan, to be honest. I think that’s what yellow cards are for. I think the current system works well, it’s just got to be applied right. I think adding a blue card would just add more confusion, in my opinion, so I’m against it. I fear for the players who would have to go off for 10 minutes and then re-find the rhythm of a Premier League game after 10 minutes out, I’m just not sure it works, personally” he added.Ange Postecoglou on the introduction of the blue card. 🟦❌ pic.twitter.com/EeXKM7nweD— Football Tweet ⚽ (@Football__Tweet) February 10, 2024 Spurs boss is one of those who are not afraid to put it directly, and Ange Postecoglou thinks it will slow the game down.“I struggle to understand why this urgency suddenly to bring in new things. I don’t know if there’s that much wrong with the game. My issue with the game right now is that VAR has changed football as an experience. I don’t know why a different colour card is going to make a difference. I don’t know about this taking things from other sports. Other sports are trying to make their games faster, we’re bringing in more clutter” he said.Liverpool will break club attendance record…against Burnley? The only guy who is not against it per se is Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta.“I don’t know if we are ready for that yet. Hopefully it’s going to be tested very well before they introduce it at this level. I think everything has been done with the intention to simplify football, to try to improve decisions that are hard to make in a split-second. Hopefully everything is done to improve the game and if that’s the case, then let’s try it” said the Spaniard.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE – MATCHDAY 24Saturday 15.30: (1.22) Man.City (6.50) Everton (12.0)18.00: (1.80) Luton (3.70) Sheffield Utd (5.00)18.00: (1.17) Liverpool (8.00) Burnley (14.0)18:00: (2.45) Fulham (3.50) Bournemouth (3.00)18:00: (2.10) Wolverhampton (3.45) Brentford (3.50)18.00: (1.85) Tottenham (4.20) Brighton (3.90)20.30: (3.60) Nott.Forest (3.60) Newcastle (2.15)Sunday 17.00: (6.25) West Ham (4.10) Arsenal (1.60)19.30: (2.20) Aston Villa (3.60) Man.Utd.
