Liverpool are going to stay in the title race until the end. Jurgen Klopp’s team strolled to three points in Brentford, mostly thanks to their deadly counter-attacks.Darwin Nunez, Alexis Mac Allister, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo were on target for the visiting team, while Ivan Toney scored a late rebound to make it a somewhat respectable scoreline for the Bees.
Brentford took a free-kick and sent the ball into the Liverpool box. Virgil van Dijk cleared the ball with a powerful thump, sending Diogo Jota into space. The little Portuguese headed the ball on halfway, which released Nunez through on goal. Mark Flekken, the goalkeeper, rushes out of his line, and Nunez cleverly chipped the ball over him. It was an excellent finish from the Uruguayan.
Diogo Jota looked lively, but he suffered a severe-looking injury just before the break and had to be stretched off. Mohamed Salah replaced him. Klopp is a lucky man to be able to bring on Salah for an injured player.
The Egyptian played a delightful pass for Mac Allister ten minutes into the second half. The Argentine poked the ball past Flekken to double the lead and delight the travelling Liverpool supporters.
Salah himself scored the third, running onto a through ball and outpacing defenders Ben Mee and Nathan Collins to slot easily into the net. His AFCON participation was a disaster because of an injury, but he’s starting to look like the player we all know again.
Toney’s goal some 15 minutes before the final whistle never looked like a start of a comeback, and substitute Cody Gakpo recorded a three-goal lead on 86 minutes to end the contest.ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUESaturdayBrentford – Liverpool 1-4 (0-2)/Toney 75 – Nunez 35, Mac Allister 55, Salah 68, Gakpo 86/18.00: (9.50) Burnley (5.30) Arsenal (1.32)18.00: (3.10) Fulham (3.60) Aston Villa (2.35)18.00: (2.50) Nott.Forest (3.45) West Ham (2.95)18.00: (1.83) Newcastle (3.70) Bournemouth (4.20)20.30: (1.37) Man.City (5.10) Chelsea (7.75)Sunday17.00: (5.10) Sheffield Utd (3.70) Brighton (1.70)19.30: (4.10) Luton (4.00) Man.Utd.
